Congratulations to Dalia Ikram Guemadnia on successfully defending her engineering final-year project at the National Polytechnic School of Constantine (ENPC)!
Dalia conducted the experimental part of her internship at the Laboratoire de Sécurité des Procédés Chimiques (LSPC), INSA Rouen Normandie. Her research focused on:
“Optimization of biomethane production through anaerobic digestion of microalgal biomass”
She investigated thermal, chemical, and enzymatic pretreatments of Chlorella vulgaris, together with several anaerobic co-digestion strategies. Her work combined physicochemical characterization, biochemical methane potential assays, biogas analysis, and kinetic modelling.
One of the most significant results was obtained through the co-digestion of 50% pretreated Chlorella vulgaris and 50% macroalgae, achieving the highest methane yield—approximately 399 mL CH₄ per gram of added volatile solids. The study showed that improving biomass solubilization does not necessarily result in a proportional increase in the final methane yield, highlighting the value of combining appropriate pretreatment and co-digestion strategies.
We would like to congratulate Dalia on her dedication, professionalism, and the considerable work she accomplished throughout this internship.
Many thanks to all colleagues at ENPC and LSPC–INSA Rouen Normandie who contributed to her supervision and supported the successful completion of this work.
We wish Dalia every success in the next steps of her scientific and professional journey!
