♻️ From agricultural residues to renewable energy

As part of the PRIMA PHYBIOMED project, we are exploring thermochemical pathways to convert agricultural residues into a hydrogen-rich gas that can be used in a micro-combined heat and power system (micro-CHP) for the simultaneous production of electricity and heat.

This work was presented during the final-year engineering internship defence of Ibtihal Lmamounat, a fifth-year engineering student at the École Mohammadia d’Ingénieurs (EMI), Mohammed V University in Rabat. Her internship was carried out at the LSPC, INSA Rouen Normandie, and focused on the catalytic steam reforming of bio-oil produced from argan pulp, an underused Moroccan agro-industrial residue.

The study addressed catalyst development and the optimisation of key operating parameters to improve hydrogen production while limiting catalyst deactivation.

The broader objective is to develop decentralised and circular energy solutions capable of transforming locally available agricultural residues into useful renewable energy for Mediterranean territories.
