How do you design a wastewater treatment plant for 1,000 people?
This figure presents the engineering design basis of an urban wastewater treatment plant serving 1,000 population equivalents (PE). Starting from a wastewater production of 150 L per person per day, the plant is designed to treat approximately 150 m³ of wastewater every day, with peak flows reaching 15.6 m³/h. The diagram summarizes: Design flow calculations; Main pollutant loads (BOD, COD, TSS, nitrogen and phosphorus); Treatment objectives; The complete treatment train from preliminary treatment to biological treatment, tertiary filtration, and an innovative ZnO/Biochar photocatalytic polishing reactor. This simplified engineering approach illustrates how laboratory-scale photocatalytic technologies can be integrated into a realistic wastewater treatment plant design.
